NANJING, November 4, (Daily Global South) – A team from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (E&ME), has secured first position among foreign participating countries and won the overall silver medal at the 13th International Army Cadets Week (IACW) held at the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Army Engineering University in Nanjing, China.

The five-day event has brought together cadets from 11 military academies representing 11 countries, including Pakistan, South Korea, Singapore and Egypt, alongside cadets from 15 Chinese military academies.

Themed “Addressing Key Regional Security Risks, Deepening International Military Security Cooperation, and Delivering International Public Security Products,” the event provides a multilateral platform for academic exchanges, innovation and international military cooperation.

First launched in 2005, the International Army Cadets Week has been held for 12 consecutive editions. This year’s programme marks the first time an international innovation competition has been organized alongside the event.

The competition features four thematic categories: international peacekeeping, escort missions, international rescue, and international and regional counterterrorism cooperation.

Participating cadets have presented innovative projects addressing contemporary security challenges, including an intelligent reconnaissance-and-strike robot for urban counterterrorism, a tactical water reconnaissance drone system, an intelligent camouflage system for peacekeeping operations and a surveillance system using 3D Gaussian Splatting technology for embassies and consulates.

Chinese and international cadets have been organized into mixed teams to encourage collaboration, exchange technical knowledge and explore the practical applications of their innovations.

“Organizing Chinese and foreign participants into mixed groups aims to foster understanding of joint operations and cultivate innovation capabilities through genuine collaboration,” said Army Captain Li Kunyuan of the PLA Army Engineering University.

He added that many of the submitted projects demonstrated strong potential for practical application and reflected participants’ understanding of real-world security challenges.

The event, running until November 6, also provides foreign cadets with opportunities to study and train alongside their Chinese counterparts, gain firsthand insight into China’s achievements in developing advanced technologies and experience traditional Chinese culture.
